Sunday 27th August 1972
Clive Skilton lost to Dennis Priddle in the first side by side six second race at the Santa Pod Raceway, Northamptonshire. Skilton ran 6.89/211 (his first six), Priddle’s slingshot ran 6.67secs. The first side by side 200mph run happened at the same meeting when Herridge’s ‘Firefly’ ran a 7.34/201 to beat Skilton’s 7.41/200. Herridge went on to run a 7.2. Dave Stone took ‘Tee Rat’ to its best ever time with an 8.6 second run and then went on to crack a piston and bend a rod trying to better it.
