Why Helmets Are So Important for Motorcyclists

Helmets are a motorcyclist’s best friend! It is one, if not the most important, part of protective gear since it will keep your head, neck, and face safe in an accident.

Accidents happen; they happen even to the most experienced motorcyclists. And the consequences of a motorcycle accident can be severe, if not fatal. That is why you should always wear a helmet when driving.

Protection gear for motorcyclists is the most important aspect!

If you have a family member or a friend in your life that loves motorcycles, or you love to ride around on a bike and explore the world yourself, you know how vital the right protection gear really is. It is so important that it will even decide between life and death in some cases. This is why you not only should go for high-quality gear but also focus on protecting your whole body, specifically your head! Helmets are crucial for protection and therefore are a must for every motorcyclist.

Pros and Cons of using a helmet

Why then do not all bikers wear a helmet?

Here are the pros and cons of using a helmet as a motorcyclist.

Pros:

Protection in case of an accident

The most apparent pro of using a helmet is that it will protect you from severe injuries in case of an accident. Looking at the protective gear, people might argue that the helmet is the most critical part. It protects your head, but if you, for example, go for a full-face helmet, it will also protect your neck and face.

Many models on the market

There are so many models, sizes, and styles on the market that everyone will find a helmet they like. It is basically impossible not to find a helmet that fits perfectly, looks good, and protects you from injuries.

It’s the law in many countries

Would you rather not wear a helmet? Oh well, in many countries, you do not really have a choice since it is the law. You can research and determine if you are required to wear a helmet before getting a fine. For example, in 18 states of the US, a helmet is required by law. If you live in one of these states, it is unfortunately not up to you if you want to wear a helmet or not.

Cons:

Can be expensive

One of the big cons of wearing a helmet is the price. The prices can vary between 100 and 1000 dollars. You also need to remember that you might want to spend more on a higher quality product. Not everyone can afford a good helmet. Second-hand helmets are also not necessarily an option since you do not know how old the helmet is and if the previous owner dropped it.

Need to be exchanged regularly

Unfortunately, buying a helmet is not a one-time purchase; it must be exchanged regularly. If you always use the helmet, you might need to exchange it after 5 to 7 years. Did you accidentally drop it? If so, you probably have to get a new one earlier. Furthermore, be sure to check for dents, cracks, and the like.

Keep in mind, though, that protection and comfort are key elements when riding a motorcycle. And a helmet should fit perfectly – it is a must.
