US-born Johnny Bohmer toppled the record for the fastest standing mile in a street car when he reached 283.23mph at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida. Bohmer’s firm, Performance Power Racing, specialised in building ultra-high-performance cars, and tuned a 2006 Ford GT, subsequently known as the BADD GT, to 1,700bhp for the record attempt.
