Two days after its introduction at the New York World Fair, the Ford Mustang was advertised to the whole of the American public via all three American television networks. It was the most successful product launch in motoring history, setting off near-pandemonium at Ford dealers across the continent. The original Mustang is considered to be the first pony car, and inspired many imitators.
