Tony Vandervell, the man behind the successful Vanwall Grand Prix car was runner-up at the Shelsley Walsh Hillclimb, at the first meeting held there after World War I. With a Clement-Talbot, he was only 2.2 seconds behind works driver, C Bird, whose Indianapolis Sunbeam made the fastest climb of the day.
