Thomas Hancock (78) , the father of the British rubber industry whose efforts paralleled those of Charles Goodyear in the United States, died in Stoke Newington, England. He invented the masticator, a machine that shredded rubber scraps and which allowed rubber to be recycled after being formed into blocks or sheets.
