The situation comedy “My Mother the Car” premiered on NBC-TV. Panned by critics the show followed the exploits of attorney David Crabtree who purchased a dilapidated 1928 Porter touring car. The car turned out to be the reincarnation of his deceased mother, Gladys. She talked (only to Crabtree) through the car’s radio: the dial light flashing in synchronisation with “Mother’s” voice.
