The San Marino Grand Prix at Imola was won by David Coulthard driving a McLaren-Mercedes MP4-13. Ferrari drivers, Michael Schumacher set the fastest lap on his way to second and Eddie Irvine was third. The two Williams teammates Villeneuve and Frentzen were 4th and 5th and Jean Alesi was 6th from his 12th place starting position.
