The last of the distinctive-looking Checker taxicabs rolled off the assembly line in Kalamazoo, Minnesota. The Checker, particularly the 1956–1982 A8/Marathon, remains the most famous taxicab vehicle in the US. First produced in 1922, it is comparable to the London Taxi in its nationally renowned styling, which went unchanged throughout its use, and also for its iconic status.
