The first motor vehicle appeared on the streets of Japan, an imported German built Hildebrand & Wolfmuller motorcycle. H&W was the first mass produced motorcycle, and the first machine which was given the name of motorad (motorcycle). The H&W had been imported to Tokyo by a Japanese pioneer Shinsuke Jumonji.
