The first Brazilian Grand Prix was held at the bumpy and demanding Interlagos circuit, located in São Paulo, although it was not part of the Formula One World Championship. It was won by Carlos Reutemann in a Brabham-Cosworth BT34. The following year, however, the race was first included in the official calendar.
