Slick Davis became the first NASCAR ­driver to be fatally injured. The tragedy happened in an event at Greensboro, North Carolina (US). Curtis Turner started on the pole and won the race. Billy Carden won another NASCAR Modified race held on the same day in Columbus, Georgia, US.
