Signs that tell it is time to top up transmission fluid

Any vehicle user knows the importance of geared transmission because it provides the traction to vehicles to generate movement. The gear system of cars transmits the power generated by the engine to the wheels and any defect with the transmission system will affect the movement and speed of vehicles. Defective geared up transmissions make vehicles lose its mobility.  Geared systems can be manual or automatic, and the speed of the vehicle synchronizes with the transmission to ensure smooth drive. The transmission system comprises of several moving parts with the gears being most prominent, but there are a hundred other components that support it to perform satisfactorily. In addition, the transmission fluid inside enables lubrication and cooling besides helping in transmitting force and pressure and even prevents build-up.
Low transmission fluid can be bad for the system, and you must pick up the early signs to avoid any significant damage to gears that might necessitate transmission repair. No one takes care of gears and transmission unless they face some trouble that inhibits vehicle movement, but this is a big mistake because it leads to costly repairs that take some time. To avoid such problems, you must know the symptoms that warn you about low transmission fluid of the transmission system so that you can take timely action to prevent bigger problems.

Difficulty in gear shifting

Gear movement should be smooth because it is designed in that way. However, if you feel that it needs some hard pressing to shift gears and there is some disparity in gear positioning when accelerating, it means that the gear functioning is unsatisfactory. The reason could be low transmission fluid that shows up in the form of delayed or missing response during gear shifting which can also be a sign of failed transmission.

Slippage in transmission

When the transmission is smooth, there is perfect synchronization between the drive system of the vehicle and the engine. Transmission slips refer to a condition when there is a disruption in the synchronization, and the vehicle fails to respond when the engine speeds up. It shows that the gear engagement is less than satisfactory that causes the disruption and it happens because there is insufficient transmission fluid in the system.

Transmission overheating

The transmission fluid keeps the transmission system cool and facilitates smooth movement of the moving parts, especially the gears. If you observe too much heating, it is either due to the poor quality of transmission fluid or less quantity of fluid. Overheating is the most common cause of transmission failure, and the fluid temperature should never cross the 200-degree Fahrenheit mark.

Transmission fluid leakage

Keep close watch under the car and in the engine compartment to detect any fluid leakage because even minor leaks can drain out a considerable amount to transmission fluid and damage the gears. If you see some red liquid with a sweet smell under the car, it is a sign of leakage that you must repair immediately.
Noiseless transmission is the benchmark, and if you ever hear some unusual sound from the transmission system, it is time to check for problems.
