Roger Williamson (25) was burnt to death at the Dutch Grand Prix in his March 731 racing car. Fellow British driver David Purley attempted to save Williamson’s life, for which he was awarded the George Medal. In 2003, on the thirtieth anniversary of his fatal crash, a bronze statue of Williamson was unveiled at the Donington Park circuit in his native Leicestershire.
