Richard Petty scored his 196th career win, leading the final 29 laps at North Carolina Motor Speedway in Rockingham, North Carolina, US. Petty prevailed by half a car-length to deny Bill Elliott his first win in NASCAR’s premier series. Darrell Waltrip was third as the only other car on the lead lap.
