Recently hired engineer Andrew Riker, co-founder of the Society of Automotive Engineers, delivered the first four-cylinder, petrol-powered Locomobile, a $4,000, 12 hp Model C, to a buyer in New York City. Best known for building steam-powered cars, the Locomobile Company realised that the future of the automobile was with the internal-combustion engine. Until the company went out of business in 1929, the company built elegant, expensive, and luxurious touring-cars as well as streamlined racers.
