Radio Engineering Laboratories of Long Island City installed the first police radio system, connecting headquarters to patrol cars and two patrol cars to one another, in Eastchester Township, New York. The township contracted with the company for one transmitter of 20W for the headquarters and transmitters of 4.5 V for the patrol cars. Among its other uses, the ‘calling all cars’ police radio system became a popular prop for radio, television and film drama.
