Racer Gil Anderson set a new speed record on the opening day of motor racing at the Sheepshead Bay Speedway, located in Brooklyn, New York. Driving a Stutz, Anderson achieved an average speed of 102.6 mph over a 350-mile course, breaking the 100-mph barrier while setting a new speed record for such a distance. Anderson was participating in the celebrated Vincent Astor Cup event, an annual motor race that attracted thousands of enthusiasts to Sheepshead Bay for several decades.
