Proton Waja (Proton Impian in UK), the first car model designed internally by Proton, was launched. The 1.6 litre 16V CamPro engine provided a maximum power of 110bhp and top speed of 124mph. Lotus-developed ride and handling made it an enjoyable and reliable drive and the finishing touches inside, made the Impian both comfortable and practical.
