Paul Goldsmith was flagged the winner, but 45 minutes later a scoring re-check gave Jim Paschal the win in the NASCAR GN ‘Virginia 500’ at Martinsville Speedway, Virginia, US. Paschal was driving the Friedkin Plymouth. “Tiger” Tom Pistone roared from 20th starting to 5th in 20 laps. With only 1 caution the whole race, most pit stops came under green. Pistone’s rag tag crew cost him time on his first stop, but the little veteran from Chicago resumed his charge. Pistone took his independent Ford past David Pearson on lap 232 and led 42 laps before making his 2nd stop. Pistone lost nearly a lap, but charged back to 2nd before the motor blew in his 2 year old Ford.
