Oliver E Barthel (91), a pioneer designer with King, Ford, Oldsmobile and Cadillac, the designer of the Ford 999 race car, the holder of 35 patents relating to the automobile, and the inventor of the taper frame allowing more streamlined bodies, died in Detroit, Michigan, US.
