Newcomer Tommy Thompson outlasted Curtis Turner in an epic slugfest to win the Motor City 250 at Detroit, US. Driving a Chrysler, Thompson survived a motorized rubdown with roughneck Turner, taking the lead with 18 laps remaining, and collecting $5,000 for the victory.
