Mario Andretti won the German Grand Prix at Hockenheim in his Lotus. Starting on the pole he won by 15.3 seconds over Jody Schecter in the Wolf. Jacques Laffite was third in his Ligier. Andretti’s teammate, Peterson set fastest lap but his gearbox packed up on lap 36, forcing his retirement.
