Born on this day, Manuel L. Ayulo, US racer. Ayulo had been trying to qualify for the Indy 500 since 1948. He entered the 1951 running in the Coast Grain Lesovsky-Offenhauser, but once again failed to qualify. However, in the race he was called in as relief driver for his friend Jack McGrath and, taking over the Jack Hinkle Kurtis KK3000-Offenhauser, finished in 3rd spot. He was seriously injured on the 15th of May 1955 while practicing for the Indy 500, apparently the steering of his Kurtis 500C-Offenhauser broke and he crashed against into the wall. Sadly he succumbed to his injuries the following day
