Manfred von Brauchitsch


Sunday 15th August 1909

Born on this day, Manfred von Brauchitsch, known as “der Pechvogel”, von Brauchitsch who drove for Mercedes-Benz in the famous “Silver Arrows” of Grand Prix motor racing in the 1930s. He had the speed to win Grand Prix races but was more famous for losing them by bad luck. But sometimes he seemed to have created his own misfortune because his driving style was not known to be polished. It included violent braking, hard working with the steering wheel and he was infamous for destroying both engine and tyres.
