Make Parking a Doddle with Parking Stops

Parking stops are a very effective tool for parking management whether at home, in the workplace or in public car parking areas. There are a few different options for you to choose from, with different features to think about – so read on for our guide, and before you know it you will have made parking management an absolute doddle!

If you are travelling to Malaga – reserve your airport parking in advance.

What are they?

Buying parking stops will help to clearly indicate the end of parking spaces for your car park users. Often brightly coloured to draw the eye, the stop also acts as a physical barrier – the driver will feel it when the wheel comes into contact with the stop, and know that they are at the limit of the space.

What are they used for?

Wherever people park there is a risk of collision – with other cars, with walls, even with pedestrians. Not only that, but busy areas (supermarket car parks, for example) need to manage the position of the cars with precision – it only takes one badly parked car to interrupt the flow of people, wheelchairs, trolleys and pushchairs along footpaths.

What are they made from?

You have three main choices when it comes to the material used for manufacturing parking stops.

Plastic is the cheapest option, but is susceptible to cracking and can be flimsy and small.

Concrete is the most expensive option. Installation is hard, disruptive work and the parking stops will need to be painted occasionally to keep them fresh. These stops can also be destructive to the body or wheels of the car when they are hit – and they can chip quite easily.

Rubber is the ideal material for parking stops. It is not nearly as expensive as concrete, and lasts significantly longer than plastic. Rubber can also be coloured permanently, so you won’t need to freshen it up with paint. This material will also flex a little when impacted, meaning that it both resists damage and is less likely to cause damage. Many suppliers now stock rubber parking stops made entirely from recycled materials, making them a great environmentally conscious choice, too.

Anything else?

Make sure to get the right size of parking stop for your environment. Standard models range from 55cm (great for domestic use) through to 180cm for larger vehicles or bigger sites.

Installing parking stops is fairly easy, at least for rubber and plastic models, as they use simple fixing bolts to stay in place. Concrete stops need at least a couple of people or moving equipment to get in position.

Lastly, you will need to pick a colour scheme – plain black is easy to miss, particularly in dark environments like indoor car parks, and pedestrians can end up tripping over them. Select something eye-catching, like a yellow and black, red and white or blue and white contrasting stripe – it will draw the eye and make your environment a little safer.
