Leslie Leston

Born on this day, Leslie Leston, British racing driver. The 1954 British Formula 3 Champion had his Formula 1 debut as works driver for Connaught GP team, while racing his own Cooper sports car as well as occasional Formula 3 outings time permitting. His best result in Formula 1 came 1956 with a 2nd place in Brands Hatch. In 1957 he switched to BRM during the season, while competing in sports car racing as a works driver for Aston Martin and also running his own Cooper Formula 2 car, winning 8 events. Despite a 5th place in Pau there was no decent offer coming forth to continue in F1. Thereafter he went on to win the 1958 British Touring Car Championship with his own Riley and the British GT championship in 1961 besides extending his activities into rallying.
