Legendary, six-time NHRA Pro Stock Bike champion, Dave Schultz died of colon cancer at age 52. Schultz was a tenacious drag racer. He started racing cars but soon turned to motorcycles. He won his first NHRA national in 1985, and his first NHRA championship in 1987. He followed that up with another championship in 1988 and then won NHRA Pro Stock titles in 1991, 1993, 1994 and 1996. He earned an incredible 45 NHRA event wins. Schultz also raced in AMA Prostar and captured 21 event wins and two championships: in 1991 and 1994. Furthermore, he won seven IDBA drag racing championships. He won champions in the three major series— AMA Prostar, NHRA and IDBA—simultaneously in 1991 and 1994. Schultz was inducted into the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame in 2001.
