Legendary blues singer Bessie Smith was buried near Philadelphia, US. Some 7,000 mourners attended her funeral. Smith had died a few days before when the old Packard she was driving hit a parked truck in Mississippi, between Clarksdale and Memphis. There is no record of Smith’s date of birth, but she was suspected to be about the age of 43.
