Lee Petty captured his 50th career NASCAR GN win by having his Plymouth in front when the race at Asheville-Weaverville Speedway in North Carolina was halted after 167 of 200 laps, due to deteriorating track conditions. Earlier, the race had been stopped for an hour as track workers swept broken up asphalt into holes in the surface of the 1/2 mile paved oval.
