Lee Ann Roberts Breedlove became the first female driver to exceed 300 mph when she raced to 308.50 mph in the four-wheeled J79 jet-engined Spirit of America Sonic 1 vehicle over the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah. A few hours later on the same day, Lee Ann’s husband Craig Breedlove broke his own record from the previous year when he reached 555.49 mph in the Spirit of America.
