Jimmie Johnson scored his second consecutive win of season when he took the checkered flag in the rain-delayed Food City 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway. Johnson followed up his win at Texas Motor Speedway with his 82nd career NASCAR Cup Series win, which was his second at Bristol. Johnson had to race hard for the top spot in a torrid battle that saw him fight off Kyle Larson, Denny Hamlin, Kevin Harvick, Joey Logano and others with multiple lines being used by each driver. Once Johnson did wrestle the top spot away with 21 to go, he did pull away to a relatively comfortable advantage to take the checkered flag over Clint Bowyer.
