Jim Paschal took the lead when Richard Petty blew his engine with 53 laps left and went on to win the NASCAR GN ‘Gwyn Staley Memorial 400’ on the 5/8 mile paved North Wilkesboro Speedway, North Carolina. Paschal’s Friedkin Plymouth finished 6 laps ahead of G.C. Spencer’s independent Plymouth.
