Jeff Gordon won the controversial Aaron’s 499 at Talladega Alabama (US) when a caution flag froze the field as Dale Earnhardt, Jr., attempted a decisive pass for the lead. Rules implemented in late 2003 ­prohibited “racing back to the flag” ­during a caution period.
