Harry Gant scored his third of four wins at Darlington Raceway in the TranSouth 500 and ended a long winless streak in the process. Gant, who led 179 laps, was in prime position after a caution caused a three lap dash to the finish. On the final restart, Gant got by Alan Kulwicki and went on to take the win over Davey Allison, who passed Geoffrey Bodine for second on the final lap. The win was the first since 1985 for the 18-time NASCAR Cup Series winner.
