Born on this day, George W. Houk, US automobile wheel manufacturer. After working in bicycle manufacturing In England, Houk returned to the US in 1909 and worked as manager of the Oldsmobile Company of Massachusetts. He introduced the Rudge-Whitworth detachable wire wheel to the United States market and was the general sales manager for this product for the Standard Roller Bearing Company in Philadelphia. He then founded his own wheel manufacturing company in Buffalo, the Wire-Wheel Corporation of America.
