Ford took a major step in overcoming its history of poor labour relations, opening the joint UAW (United Auto Workers) and Ford National Development and Training Center. The centre, located in Dearborn, Michigan, provides education and training to workers, as well as community programs. Workers can participate in any of six major programs, learning about everything from math skills to pension plans. More importantly, the center also offers relocation assistance and several unemployment programs for laid-off workers. Ford subsidizes the training centre with grants and tuition assistance.
