Featuring a fibreglass body, a three position convertible top and unique sliding doors, the Kaiser Darrin roadster went on sale and deliveries began shortly after. Sadly its high price ($3668) and unconventional styling meant that it was not a success. The 2.6 litre 6-cylinder in-line side-valve engine produced 90 hp. It was only due to the rather low vehicle weight of about one metric ton that the car was able to set a 0 to 60 mph time of about 15.1 seconds. The top speed was just a little less than 100 miles per hour. Production ceased after only 435 of the roadsters rolled off the assembly line.
