Cars and Hollywood – what an awesome combo! Check out these 10 famous cars, made even more famous in movies and TV shows.
When you think about famous cars from movies, what do you think about? Is it the Back to the Future time-traveling car? Or are you more of a James Bond car fan?
Both the De Lorean and two of 007’s cars made this list. But there may be some that surprise you. Do you even know who Elle Woods is? You will now. Check out our top ten famous cars from movies below.
1. 1969 Mercedes-Benz Cabriolet
Imagine that you’ve just gotten to Vegas with your friends and a badass car loaned to you by your father in law. What’s the first thing you do? Park it at the hotel and go drink!
So would go any regular Vegas movie, but this is The Hangover.
Things get much too wild and crazy, including transporting a tiger in the aforementioned car. Such a sad day for such a beautiful car, which makes it on our list – pre-tiger only.
2. 1950 Mercury Monterey
Go back in time with us to the 1950’s. Car companies weren’t concerned with compact cars or fuel efficiency. They wanted luxury and breathing room. That’s what you get with this coupe from the movie Cobra.
We would use it in a different way, notably, not to chase zombies – but that’s just us.
3. 2000 Porche Boxster 986
There aren’t a lot of female-oriented movies that have awesome cars in them, which makes sense with target audiences and all that. But one that does come to mind is Elle Wood’s Porsche convertible in Legally Blonde.
It was just such a good match for her character and gave her tiny puppy Bruiser ample breathing room. We wish there was a shot of her driving away into the sunset once she wins her case, but we’ll take what we can get.
4. 2007 Aston Martin DBS V12
What car could scream luxury, class, and all around badass-ary more than the car of 007? This beautiful car used in Die Another Day, Casino Royale, and briefly in Quantum of Solace.
Viewers quickly fell in love with Aston Marton’s newest luxury v12 model. Too bad it crashed so violently in the film – we bet it would have made millions at auction.
5. 1981 De Lorean DMC-12
Obviously, we had to put the Back to the Future car on this list. It’s pretty much mandatory to mention it when it comes to famous cars. Did you know that there are police reports of people crashing from trying the time warp in real-life De Loreans?
That’s how famous it is. It didn’t have much success in the market and in the here and now – but it’ll be remembered forever thanks to Marty McFly.
6. Batmobile Via Batman Begins
We all remember the film The Dark Knight as the film that coincided with Heath Ledger’s death. The cause of which (intentional or accidental?) still isn’t known today.
Along with tragedy, this movie brought us an awesome Batmobile, though it’s hard to find a bad one. It wasn’t easy to make, with over fifty custom-made fiber panels that made up the shape. That was before 3D-printing too.
This Batmobile has a kick, zero to sixty in five seconds if the movie’s producers are to be believed. Paired with a V8 Chevy engine, this is definitely something you want to jump out of the way of.
7. The Gigahorse Double ’59 Cadillac
Charlize Theron is impressive, but so is every car in this film. The dystopian times desert cars from this movie aren’t at all CGI’d. People built and customized them just for the film.
That includes the Double ’59 Cadillac named, the Gigahorse. It’s most impressive feat in the movie isn’t technical, it’s just the way it exists and flies through the sand.
If global warming turns everything into a desert in our lifetime, this is the car we want to face the elements with – Unless De Lorean time travel is on the table.
8. Aston Martin DB5
Yes, we’re throwing another James Bond car in the mix – why not? James Bond cars are everything we love in a classic and lustworthy car. They’re sleek, they’re fast, and they’re very sexy.
This one is more than all that, though. It’s part sexy sports car if you mixed it with Go Go Gadget. This wasn’t the first time we saw the portrayal of an ejector seat, but it was one of the most memorable.
This 1960’s Aston Martin car from Goldfinger is still on the market – well it was, recently. It sold for a cool 4.6 million dollars That’s one hell of a car title loan. There’s no word on whether the ram bumper, smoke screen, oil sprayer, and guns came with the purchase.
But for that price, they better have!
9. 1977 Pontiac Trans Am
There’s nothing particularly unique about the shape of the Pontiac Trans Am from Smokey and the Bandit. Other than the fact that it stars in the film.
It wasn’t made up of custom panels like the Batmobile, nor did it have ejector seat powers. But it became an American obsession after that movie.
And we do mean obsession. After the film was released, 30,000 more Trans Ams were sold than the previous year. And after that, 24,000 more than the year before. This car was a legend, and not the most expensive model on this list, by a long shot.
If car companies want to shoot up their product sales, maybe more movies should feature expensive but-reasonable models like the Trans Am. Having Burt Reynolds be the spokesperson wouldn’t hurt either!
10. 1969 Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu
If you’re not a fan of Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby, go ahead and skip this entry. It’s dedicated to his #13 racer, which he only drove for a short stint in the movie.
It wasn’t until there was an actual Lion in the front seat that we see Ricky re-approaching his pro-driver status. What still stands out to us from that film is the line “I’m too drunk to taste this chicken” But the car was nice too.

Famous Cars
As we see in this article, the last ten years hasn’t been kind to movie cars. Maybe we’re just tired of the Fast and the Furious mods, or maybe there was a golden age for movie cars.
Either way, these famous cars are still living on through history fifty plus years later (in some cases).
