Elwood Haynes married Bertha Lanterman in Portland, Indianapolis, US. Haynes had teamed up with Elmer and Edgar Apperson to produce the Haynes-Apperson automobile. The company produced vehicles until the 1920s. Haynes received patents on two alloys: stainless steel and stellite.
