David Pearson sidestepped Richard Petty near the midway point and led the rest of the Myers Brothers 250 at Bowman Gray Stadium in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, US. Pearson slipped by to lead the final 111 laps, finishing three seconds ahead of pole-starter Petty on the quarter-mile asphalt track. Bobby Isaac finished third, four laps down.
