David Pearson cruised to victory at Michigan International Speedway, leading 155 of 200 laps in the Motor State 400. Pearson, driving a Wood Brothers Mercury, was 16 seconds ahead of runner-up Bobby Allison at the finish. Richard Petty, the last driver on the lead lap, was third in a 1-2-3 finish of NASCAR Hall of Famers. Pearson still tops Michigan’s all-time win list with nine wins at the 2-mile track.
