Darrell Waltrip led 158 laps, including the final 52, to win the Pannill Sweatshirts 500 at Martinsville Speedway. Waltrip win the final race for the older Chevrolet Monte Carlo body as the manufacturer rolled out the Lumina the next week at Talladega. Dale Earnhardt finished second, 6.8 seconds behind after leading 103 laps. Geoffrey Bodine led the opening 117 laps from the pole, but got damage trying to make his way through a multi-car crash.
