Dale Earnhardt won the third running of NASCAR’s All-Star Race, executing the famed “Pass in the Grass” after clashing with Geoffrey Bodine and Bill Elliott in the final 10-lap segment at Charlotte Motor Speedway, North Carolina, US. Earnhardt kept the lead after a bump from pole-winner Elliott sent him sliding through the frontstretch grass and held on for the first of his three wins in the event. Terry Labonte took second with Tim Richmond third. Elliott, who finished 14th after cutting down a tire, clanged fenders with Earnhardt on the cool-down lap to express his displeasure with the result.
