Dale Earnhardt won the First Union 400 at North Wilkesboro Speedway after leading 227 laps. It was the first of five wins that season for Earnhardt, who drove at his pace over the last 85 laps of the race on older tires. Pole winner Jeff Gordon finished second, 13.5 seconds behind, with his right-rear tire going away.
