Dale Earnhardt cruised to victory at Atlanta Motor Speedway (US) to win the Purolator 500, beating runner-up Terry Labonte by 4.28 seconds at the finish. Jeff Gordon took third. Earnhardt led 136 of the 328 laps, including the final 29. It was the last win for Earnhardt before a 59-race drought, which ended with his lone Daytona 500 win in 1998.
