Continental Trailways offered the first transcontinental express bus service in the US. The 3,154-mile ride from New York City to San Francisco lasted 88 hours and 50 minutes, of which only 77 hours was riding time. In 1953 it cost you $56.70. Today, Greyhound will take you on the same trip for about $225.
