Cale Yarborough won his fourth Daytona 500. Yarborough passed Darrell Waltrip on the final lap and outran Dale Earnhardt off the final turn to claim victory. Yarborough completed a lap of 201.848 mph (324.828 km/h), officially breaking the 200 mph barrier at Daytona 500
