Buck Baker won the 100-mile NASCAR Grand National race at Columbia, South Carolina, US, and Lee Petty vaulted to the top of the points standings. Fonty Flock, points leader entered the race, but sat out due to injuries suffered at Martinsville. E.C. Ramsey crashed into a passenger car that attempted to cross the track during the race. Ramsey’s Ford and the passenger car were ­heavily damaged.
