Born on this day, Piero Scotti, an Italian businessman who raced Ferrari sports cars in the early fifties, taking third place in the 1951 Mille Miglia, and sharing a works car with Farina to win the Casablanca 12 Hours. He continued to find success in minor events before trying his hand at Formula 1 in 1956. He bought an F1 Connaught on hire-purchase and took seventh in the International Trophy, but after the Belgian Grand Prix at Spa he returned the car to the factory and gave up racing.
